I've seen Sam's Middy dress several times and really like it, but I want to sew one in a slightly different color. It is supposed to be a sairu fuku (sailor uniform) like Japanese school girls wear. I want something like Shizuku's uniform from Whisper of the Heart or Kagome's school uniform from InuYasha. No Sailor Moon mini skirts allowed at our house.

Does anyone know of a pattern for a middy shirt/blouse? I've got lots of pleated skirt patterns. If nothing else any ideas how to add a middy collar to a shirt pattern?

BTW: The band uniform is coming along. I found patterns that can be gently modified to suit my needs. Once the living room is done being painted and the back windows are replaced I plan to start it. If it turns out well, I'll post pictures (if I can figure out how image station works)

There's an old Vogue Craft pattern for a two piece sailor outfit. It was designed to look like Sam's, only without the cumbersome blouson bit at the waist. Pattern # 8647 copyright 1993. Maybe you can find it on ebay?

Their school uniforms really are not all that short. Aside from Rei's, they're about the same length as Kagome's, and pretty much any other anime style serafuku out there.

Anyway, if you find a pattern and end up making one, please post pics !

Gomen nasai, Cami san. I actually like the Sailor Moon stuff, it's just the DIC dubs that make me cringe. What I actually meant was the senshi outfits, not their day to day clothes.

I was just thinking that the outfit that my friend Fukumi wore in HS was totally adorable and Kumiko has been begging for an outfit like her namesake (both go by Kumi).

See, when I think Sailor Moon skirts, I think of their battle outfits, which really are awfully short. I'm so shy I don't like my bathing suit to be that showy. (I really do want to make a replica of Sam's to wear to the beach. I wonder if people would think I was a ghost. )

Simplicity 5420 makes an attempt at a sailor collar. I don't think it's great, but it's mix-and-match, so if you find it on sale, you might be able to conform it to your needs.

Good luck! When you finish your project, please share pictures!

I just bought that pattern (Vogue 8647) at a thrift store but haven't had a chance to try it out yet. It looks good, though.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I've used this pattern before, but altered it slightly. It's not really a sailor uniform anymore. You'll need to make adjustments to the sleeves/cuffs. Vogue patterns are made for cloth dolls and the hands of AGs don't fit through the openings.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Thanks for the tip. I have two Vogue patterns. One of them has a firefighter costume I'm supposed to start soon.
